Product Description
Chi Kung For Health, Volume Four: Advanced Long Form Standing Exercise Volume Four teaches the Advanced Long Form Meditation called the Flying Phoenix Heavenly Healing Chi Meditation, which is the capstone of the entire Ehrmei Mountain Flying Phoenix Celestial Healing Qigong system (Ehrmeishan Fei Feng San Gung). Terry Dunn provides detailed, step-by-step, expert instruction in this 20 to 30-minute form, which is similar to a Tai Chi form in terms of choreographic complexity. The form instruction is organized into six sections; Dunn repeats each section four times, and demonstrates the entire Form at the end of the program with its esoteric breath control formula done one time before movement begins. Daily practice of this most comprehensive Qigong form develops perfectly relaxed natural movement, toes-to-fingers Qi activation (as in advanced Tai Chi), and somehow mysteriously activates the self-healing faculties of the body, strengthening immunity, impeccable good health and long-term vitality, and in short order obviates the need to practice the basic Flying Phoenix standing meditations of Volumes One and Three. This moving meditation is practiced at a speed approximately three times slower than typical Tai Chi form speed--i.e., approaching "the speed of a shifting sand dune"--as the oral teaching goes. Developing proficiency in the exercises of Volumes 1, 2 and 3 is recommended before beginning this training in order to derive maximum health benefits. Once you learn the Advanced Long Form Meditation and can practice it with the eyes closed (all standing moving meditations in the FP Qigong system are done with the eyes closed), this advanced practice subsumes the practice of all the preceding basic standing meditations in Volumes One and Three. That is, one no longer needs to practice the preceding 7 standing meditations to maintain vibrant good health. (60 min.)
Review
Two reviews by F. T. Njoku given 4 years apart: (1) Just Do It, May 10, 2007 By Four Tusk Njoku (Philadelphia, USA) - See all my reviews I could have given it 4 stars for still being in DVD. First, this is a superlatively beautiful form to watch and to perform. Secondly, this is an advanced practice. It would take most people at least 6 months of regular practice going through the first three phases of this practice to develop the skills to take on Volume 4. It takes a special commitment and perhaps that is not you and it is definitely not most people, so I have found. I give out Part OneChi Kung For Health ( Qi Gong ) - Five Standing Meditations of this practice to everyone I know, and about 20% of them take it up and they are most grateful. This is a great practice for body, mind and spirit. It is holy; it is healthful; it is scientific. Yet, there are no words. Just do the movements, memorize the movements, do the breathing exercises before. Do not argue, do not think. Just do, and you will see results. How did the ancient Chinese discover this? I discovered Terry Dunn's series in 1996 when they were then on clunky VHS, very hazy looking tape (he called them poor production values), but his instruction was just as detail oriented and precise. His voice was just as calming and the taiji background music, he still uses. This DVD is much better than the first editions, especially because the DVD format provides great navigation and better video quality. For best results start with Part 1 and Part 2. Then add Part 3 to your practice. You will get to know your body and mind like the back of your hand and have access to reserves of energy. You will radiate it like the sun to others around you. (2) Four Tusk Njoku 5.0 out of 5 stars The best of the best Reviewed in the United States on May 11, 2011 This series of Chi kung (Qigong) videos is simply the best, and I have a stack of DVDs that I have sampled over time, but I always return to the Flying Phoenix series. There is a quality of the energy obtained from this practice that no other system seems to impart. This particular DVD is the capstone of the series, a complex choreography that takes at least 20 minutes to perform. All the previous DVDs build up to this practice, which in many ways includes the benefits of Volumes 1-3. Find quiet time away from everything to enjoy this form everyday. Be patient. Start with the first DVD of the practice. The aim is to be able to do the series with the eyes closed from memory. Keep doing them every day. In the course of a month, if your experience was like mine, you would get to the point where the meditation seems to do you. I get into a state of blissful happiness every time I do these, and the effect hangs over into my daily life. No visualization is involved. Just pay attention to what your body is feeling and doing at every point while relaxing. It is THE Flying Phoenix Celestial Chi Meditation. --amazon dot com review by Njoku (Philadelpha, PA)
Arno Parke 5.0 out of 5 stars Long Form Meditation Reviewed in the United States on November 10, 2014 Of all the Flying Phoenix forms, this is the most difficult to learn and most challenging to practice. This form introduces some footwork in addition to the upper body movements - making it resemble a short Tai Chi. Keep practicing, though, as you'll be greatly rewarded for your effort. It's almost as if something clicks one day and your body just remembers how to do these exercises. It's a truly strange feeling when you first get into the zone - a deep sense of connectedness and grounding in your body. Another gift to all aspiring yogis from Terence Dunn. --amazon.com product listing for Chi Kung For Health Volume 4
SusieDQ 5.0 out of 5 stars Great practice for abundant energy and vitality! September 29, 2015 This product quickly delivered an increased sense of well being and improved energy levels. I've only been practicing the program for a short period but I will continue to perfect it. I plan to purchase more of Dunn's DVDs. I wish I'd had this information earlier in my life because I believe it would have dramatically increased my productivity and improved my health. I thought the program was easy to follow because the movements are so slow. I would recommend this to anyone who feels they have lost energy and vitality due to aging. --amazon.com product listing for Chi Kung For Health Volume 4
